Flutes

I teach flute in my studio at the Arts HUB in Lafayette, CO, at Saint Stephens Church in Longmont, CO, and on Zoom.

The world is full of flutes. Most cultures seem to have one or more; it is in fact the earliest known instrument in the archaeological record. There is something deeply appealing to me about the sound of air as it is set to vibrating by wood, bamboo, metal, and bone flutes.

I will teach you how to have good posture, breath control, and a command of numerous scales and modes in all available octaves on your flute. You will learn what makes a good melody, how to shape your tone, and how to compose melodies that bring your flute to life.

Regardless of the country of your flute’s origin, we will learn music from various places around the world. You will also have the opportunity to make music with others, and to play in front of an audience at one of my regular recitals, held at the Arts Hub in Lafayette.

I play many, but certainly not all, flutes from around the world, including Irish flute and whistles, Chinese xiao, Indonesian suling, and more. Contact me to find out if I can teach you the flute you have in mind.

As a student, you will have the opportunity to play for a live audience at recitals, held at the Arts Hub.

All Lessons are also available online via Zoom. Contact me to set up an appointment.
