guitar

I instruct guitarists of all levels and ages, from beginner to advanced, in my studio at the Arts HUB in Lafayette, CO, at Saint Stephens Church in Longmont, CO, and on Zoom.

All styles of music are welcome! Over the past decade I have taught everything from slide guitar and country blues to metal, pop and rock - even anime soundtracks and dubstep!

Whatever your preferred genre of music, as your instructor I will provide you with a strong foundation of technique, including a variety of strumming styles, flatpicking and/or fingerpicking. Music theory and notation will be introduced in coherent, digestible doses as we gradually master understanding the fingerboard. Strong emphasis will be placed on ear training, so you can confidently play your guitar anywhere, with or without visual materials.

Students are encouraged to sing if they wish, and I provide instruction on how to sing while playing (not the world's easiest task!), as well as general vocal coaching.

Want to compose your own music? We can do that too. I will show you how to approach songwriting, composing, and arranging in a way that is approachable and unlocks your creativity.

The guitar has a very long oral tradition, and the amount of music that stems from this tradition is vast. I place a strong emphasis on learning the skills passed down this way in addition to more formal, notation-based instructional methods. Many students video and/or audio record their lessons, and at the end of short time end up with an archive of instructional material which they can reference whenever they like.

As a student, you will have the opportunity to play for a live audience at recitals, held at the Arts Hub.

All Lessons are also available online via Zoom. Contact me to set up an appointment.
